Chin Filler Treatments

Chin filler is the easy, minimally invasive way to enhance your chin and improve the natural structure of your face. It can help to balance your face in profile and structure the lower face to reduce the appearance of a double chin or jowls. Chin filler provides results as good as, if not better, than surgery but for a fraction of the cost and with much less risk. At Harley Street Dermal, our focus is to deliver results that look natural but impactful.

What is Chin Filler and what does it do?

The chin is an under-rated part of the face. Enhancing the chin can provide balance against the nose when viewed from the side (i.e your profile) and can contribute towards a masculine or feminine appearance. It can also soften the effect of having jowls or a double chin and can also improve the appearance of the chin when someone has an overbite.

Previously, surgery was the only solution to enhancing one’s chin, either through a hard plastic/metal implant or by breaking the jaw bone to bring the whole chin forwards (genioplasty). As you can imagine this is quite invasive, expensive and comes with lots of risk. Nowadays, dermal fillers can be used to achieve chin enhancement with results just as good as surgery but at a fraction of the risk and the cost.

Dermal filler is effectively a gel made of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (which is contained naturally within the skin itself) which gives it the ability to provide structural enhancements to the chin. Because hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the skin, the filler usually integrates really well into the skin and can lead to enhancements that look natural but impactful.

It’s important that the treatment is applied conservatively to ensure that just the right amount is used to prevent over-filling. This is why the treatment should be conducted by an experienced injector who knows exactly what they are doing and can tailor the treatment to your specific needs and goals.

Why consider having Chin Filler treatment?

  • Chin fillers can be used to improve the balance of the face in profile (from the side). This can often be used to make the nose appear smaller or other facial features appear more in sync with the rest of the face
  • Chin fillers can be used to reduce the appearance of jowls or a double chin by providing tension in the area that pulls on sagging or hanging skin to make it appear straighter and slimmer, especially when your face is looked at from an angle
  • Chin fillers can be used to further a feminine appearance (by narrowing the chin) or a masculine appearance (by widening or squaring the chin)
  • Chin fillers can be an effective cosmetic treatment for those with a seemingly recessed chin as a result of having an overbite
  • The treatment usually takes around 20 minutes so it’s easy to fit in between other commitments
  • There is usually minimal downtime and you can usually resume your normal routine immediately after treatment.
  • Chin enhancement with dermal fillers eliminates the need to subject yourself to the pain, costs and risks of invasive surgery. It’s significantly cheaper and much less risky
  • Results usually last around 12-18 months, sometimes longer
  • There’s no long-term commitment- in the event that you feel the treatment is not for you, the treatment can be completely reversed with dissolving or left to break down slowly over time. This is unlike surgery where the results are irreversible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if chin fillers are right for me?

The answer to this is quite simple- chin filler could be right for you if you wanted to achieve any of the following in an affordable way and with minimum downtime:

  1. Balance your profile (the appearance of your face from the side)
  2. Enhance the chin to reduce the appearance of an overbite
  3. Masculinise or feminise your appearance
  4. Reduce the appearance of jowls or a double chin

Our doctors will always conduct a full consultation to ensure that you are suitable for treatment and can explore potential alternative solutions if you aren’t.

Will the results look natural?

Absolutely. Our team of highly experienced doctors are amongst the most respected and sought after practitioners for dermal fillers in London with over 20,000 treatments performed successfully over the last 10 years. Our focus is on enhancing your appearance in a way that doesn’t draw the wrong type of attention to yourself but rather subtly enhances what you already have or restores what you might have lost in volume over the years.

Is chin filler treatment painful?

A topical anaesthetic will be applied to help numb the treatment area beforehand. Our doctors use a combination of injection techniques which are often only mildly uncomfortable and most people tolerate the procedure without any issue and minimal pain.

What should I expect on the day?

Your doctor would usually welcome you and start with a detailed consultation. This would include discussing any previous treatments you’ve had, what your understanding of the treatment is and exploring your goals and expectations. They will also discuss the nature of the injecting procedure and related risks. If you are agreeable, the doctor will then usually conduct the treatment by first taking a pre-treatment photo and then applying topical anaesthetic while you complete the necessary medical and consent forms. After the treatment is complete, the treatment area is massaged and cleaned and then a post-treatment photo is usually taken for comparison purposes. The doctor will then explain any relevant aftercare and offer you information on how to contact them for questions or any follow-up you might require. Our doctors are always contactable directly for any clinical queries by email.

What should I expect afterwards?

There will usually be some redness and swelling in the injected areas. Usually this is mild/minimal and often doesn’t last for more than a few days at most.

Are there any precautions I should take beforehand or afterwards?

We usually advise that you refrain from drinking any alcohol for 48 hours before your treatment as this could increase your chances of bruising. Other than that, there’s not much you need to do in preparation for the treatment. We do not advise stopping any medication before your treatment. After the treatment, you’re advised to avoid topical creams/cosmetics for at least 4 hours afterwards and to avoid alcohol and exercise for a couple of days.

Is there any follow-up after the procedure?

We don’t routinely follow up everyone after their treatment. However, in certain cases some people will need more treatment and they would usually be encouraged to come for a top-up or ‘second stage’ treatment (which comes with a charge). However, if you ever feel the need to be reviewed after your treatment for whatever reason then our doctors are always happy to offer this free of charge.
