Eye Bag Treatments

As we age our skin gradually loses its structural integrity. Nowhere is that more apparent than around and under the eyes. As the tissue around the eyes ages, it begins to weaken and the fat that was intended to act as a kind of support slips down and forms bags under the eyes. There is nothing inherently dangerous about these eye bags, but if left untreated they can become the defining feature of one’s face. Previously, under eye surgery (blepharoplasty) was the only solution for this. However, surgery is expensive, risky and has a long recovery time. Dermal fillers are a newer and less invasive way to reduce the appearance of eye bags at a fraction of the cost and risk compared with surgery. The under eye is a very delicate area and it is always advisable to see an expert who specialises in this treatment. If that’s the case, then look no further as Dr Ria has successfully performed over 10,000 under eye treatments, including reducing the appearance of eye bags, with precision and care.

What Causes Eye Bags?

Eye bags have a number of causes.

Ageing

Ageing is the culprit behind many aesthetic issues and eye bags are certainly one of them. As we age we lose volume under the eye and the fat pad under the eye absorbs water and ‘hangs’ to form an eye bag

Certain Medical conditions

One example of this is having an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism or Grave’s Disease) This can sometimes can a significant enhancement to the appearance of eye bags

Smoking

Smoking is terrible for the skin. Long-time smokers typically end up with “smoker’s face” which is characterised by loose, sallow skin, deep creases and bags under the eyes.

Lack of sleep

People who do not get enough sleep often end up with increased hollowness and possible bags under the eyes.

Genetics

Some people live a healthy lifestyle and aren’t old enough to have age-related eye bags. In these cases its sometimes just genetic lottery and some people are just predisposed to having eye bags. Usually one or both parents will also have eye bags in such cases

Why consider an Eye Bag treatment?

Eye bags often give people the impression that we look tired, stressed or older than we actually are and this can affect one’s confidence. It also allows others to make assumptions about your lifestyle or age that aren’t necessarily true. Treating the issue with dermal fillers can help to significantly reduce the appearance of eye bags and just give the impression of looking fresher and well-rested. The best part is that the treatment looks completely natural and won’t be obvious to others. While treatment with dermal fillers doesn’t remove the eye bags, it can often soften their appearance significantly making them much less of an issue.

Dermal filler is effectively a gel made of hyaluronic acid (which is contained naturally within the skin itself) which can plump up and lift the hollowness around the eye bags effectively blending the eye bag into the rest of the face and making it less visible. Because dermal fillers are found naturally in the skin, rejection is almost unheard of and the filler usually integrates really well into the skin so much so that most people, including yourself, won’t be able to tell that it’s there.

  • The results look completely natural and most people won’t look like they had treatment by the time the treatment settles
  • The treatment usually takes around 20 minutes so it’s easy to fit in between other commitments
  • There is usually minimal downtime and you can usually resume your normal routine immediately after treatment.
  • Treatment of eye bags with dermal fillers eliminates the need to subject yourself to the pain, costs and risks of invasive surgery. It’s significantly cheaper and much much less risky
  • Results usually last around 12 months, sometimes longer

There’s no long-term commitment- in the event that you feel the treatment is not for you, the treatment can be completely reversed with dissolving or left to break down slowly over time. This is unlike surgery where the results are irreversible.

How do I know if Eye Bag Treatment is right for me?

The answer to this is quite simple- if you’re looking to reduce the appearance of your eye bags at an affordable price, with minimal downtime and without the hassle or expense of surgery, then dark circles treatment using dermal fillers could be the right solution for you.

Will the results look natural?

Absolutely. Dr Ria is one of the most respected and experienced practitioners for dermal fillers in London with over 20,000 treatments performed successfully over the last 9 years. His focus is on enhancing your appearance in a way that doesn’t draw the wrong type of attention to yourself but rather subtly enhances what you already have or restores what you might have lost in volume over the years.

Is Eye Bag Treatment painful?

Weirdly, no! Before the procedure begins, a topical anaesthesia will be applied to help numb the target area. Dr Ria usually uses a combination of injection techniques which are often only mildly uncomfortable and most people tolerate the procedure without any issue and minimal pain.

What should I expect on the day?

Dr Ria would usually welcome you and start with a detailed consultation. This would include discussing any previous treatments you’ve had, what your understanding of the treatment is and exploring your goals and expectations. He will also discuss the nature of the injecting procedure and related risks. If you are agreeable, Dr Ria will then usually conduct the treatment by first taking a pre-treatment photo and then applying topical anaesthetic while you complete the necessary medical and consent forms. After the treatment is complete, the treatment area is massaged and cleaned and then a post-treatment photo is usually taken for comparison purposes. Dr Ria will then explain any relevant aftercare and offer you information on how to contact him for questions or any follow-up you might require. Dr Ria is always contactable directly by his clients for any clinical queries by email (***hyperlink this to open an email)***)

Are there any precautions I should take beforehand or afterwards?

We usually advise that you refrain from drinking any alcohol for 48 hours before your treatment as this could increase your chances of bruising. Other than that, there’s not much you need to do in preparation for the treatment. We do not advise stopping any medication before your treatment.

Is there any follow-up after the procedure?

We don’t routinely follow up everyone after their treatment. However, in certain cases some people will need more treatment and they would usually be encouraged to come for a top-up or ‘second stage’ treatment (which comes with a charge). However, if you ever feel the need to be reviewed after your treatment for whatever reason then Dr Ria is always happy to offer this free of charge.
