Eye Bag Treatments

Some people can develop the appearance of ‘bags’ under their eyes for a variety of different reasons. There is nothing inherently dangerous about these eye bags, but if left untreated they can become the defining feature of one’s face. Fortunately, at Harley Street Dermal we specialise in reducing the appearance of eye bags so we can help you look like you’ve had a good night’s sleep. Are you tired of looking tired? Get results that look natural but impactful

What are Eye Bags and how do we treat them?

Eye bags form when the fat that normally supports the eye pushes forward and becomes more prominent, often due to weakening of the surrounding muscles and ligaments. This can be made worse by other issues such as fluid-retention and collagen loss which can make the eye bags even more visible. They are often genetic but can be made worse with age, smoking, stress or lack of sleep. Some medical conditions, such as having an overactive thyroid (Hyperthyroidism), can also cause eye bags.

Previously, under eye surgery (blepharoplasty) was the only solution we had for eye bags. However, surgery is expensive, risky and has a long recovery period. In some cases surgery can fail or worse yet it deepen hollowness under the eyes making them appear even darker. Dermal filler can be applied carefully around the eye bags to effectively blend them into the rest of the face, thereby making them much less visible at a fraction of the cost and with much less risk when compared with having surgery.

Dermal filler is effectively a gel made of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (which is contained naturally within the skin itself) which can gently lift out the skin around the eye bags to reduce their appearance. Because hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the skin, the filler usually integrates really well and can lead to enhancements that look natural but impactful

The under eye is a very delicate area and It’s important that the treatment is applied conservatively to ensure that just the right amount is used to prevent over-filling. This is why the treatment should be conducted by an experienced injector who knows exactly what they are doing and can tailor the treatment to your specific needs and goals. At Harley Street Dermal we are renowned for being specialists in specifically providing under eye restoration treatments as our main area of expertise which includes reducing the appearance of Eye Bags.

Our Eye Bag Treatment Results

Why consider having Eye Bag Treatment?

  • Eye bag treatment with dermal filler can significantly reduce their appearance, giving an impression of looking younger, fresher and less tired
  • The results look completely natural and most people won’t look like they had treatment by the time the treatment settles
  • The treatment usually takes around 20-30 minutes so it’s easy to fit in between other commitments
  • The treatment is almost painless and usually well-tolerated
  • Treatment of eye bags with dermal fillers eliminates the need to subject yourself to the pain, costs and risks of invasive surgery. It’s significantly cheaper and much less risky
  • Results usually last around 12-18 months, sometimes longer
  • There’s no long-term commitment- in the event that you feel the treatment is not for you, the treatment can be completely reversed with dissolving or left to break down slowly over time. This is unlike surgery where the results are irreversible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if Eye Bag Treatment is right for me?

The answer to this is quite simple- if you’re looking to reduce the appearance of your eye bags at an affordable price, with minimal downtime and without the hassle or expense of surgery, then eye bag treatment using dermal fillers could be the right solution for you. Our doctors will always conduct a full consultation to ensure that you are suitable for treatment and can explore potential alternative solutions if you aren’t.

Will the results look natural?

Absolutely. Our team of highly experienced doctors are amongst the most respected and sought after practitioners for dermal fillers in London with over 20,000 treatments performed successfully over the last 10 years. Our focus is on enhancing your appearance in a way that doesn’t draw the wrong type of attention to yourself. The aim is to make you look refreshed and like you’ve had a good night’s sleep, nothing more.

Is Eye Bag Treatment painful?

A topical anaesthetic will be applied to help numb the treatment area beforehand. Our doctors use a combination of injection techniques which are often only mildly uncomfortable and most people tolerate the procedure without any issue and minimal pain.

What should I expect on the day?

Your doctor would usually welcome you and start with a detailed consultation. This would include discussing any previous treatments you’ve had, what your understanding of the treatment is and exploring your goals and expectations. They will also discuss the nature of the injecting procedure and related risks. If you are agreeable, the doctor will then usually conduct the treatment by first taking a pre-treatment photo and then applying topical anaesthetic while you complete the necessary medical and consent forms. After the dermal filler treatment is complete, the treatment area is massaged and cleaned and then a post-treatment photo is usually taken for comparison purposes. The doctor will then explain any relevant aftercare and offer you information on how to contact them for questions or any follow-up you might require. Our doctors are always contactable directly for any clinical queries by email.

The treatment may be supplemented with creams to use at home with subsequent appointments for peels to reduce any remaining darkness from pigmentation.

What should I expect afterwards?

There will usually be some redness and swelling in the injected areas. Usually this is mild/minimal and often doesn’t last for more than a few days. In a small number of people, swelling and bruising can last a little longer but this rarely takes more than 2 weeks to settle.

Are there any precautions I should take beforehand or afterwards?

We usually advise that you refrain from drinking any alcohol for 48 hours before your treatment as this could increase your chances of bruising. Other than that, there’s not much you need to do in preparation for the treatment. We do not advise stopping any medication before your treatment. After the treatment, you’re advised to avoid topical creams/cosmetics for at least 4 hours afterwards and to avoid alcohol and exercise for a couple of days.

Is there any follow-up after the procedure?

We don’t routinely follow up everyone after their treatment. However, in certain cases some people will need more treatment and they would usually be encouraged to come for a top-up or ‘second stage’ treatment (which comes with a charge). However, if you ever feel the need to be reviewed after your treatment for whatever reason then our doctors are always happy to offer this free of charge.
