We decided to write this article because many of our patients ask us how to get rid of smile lines and we wanted to share our knowledge with a wider audience, in order to help and reassure as many people as possible. With this in mind, we hope it will prove to be useful to you.

Nasolabial folds, more commonly referred to as smile lines, are deep wrinkles or creases that form on our faces over a period of many years and are an inevitable symptom of the general ageing process. However, there are a number of ways in which you can reduce the visibility of these folds, as you will discover in today’s blog post.

How to Get Rid of Smile Lines Without Surgery

No matter your age or gender, any or all of the following suggestions may help to reduce the appearance of smile lines on your face.

  • Facial Exercise – This exercise helps to stretch and condition the skin on either side of the face and stimulate circulation. Start by separating your lips slightly then, with your fingers, pull back each corner of your mouth, towards your neck. As you do this, try to keep your lips completely parallel and hold in position for 10 seconds. Then, simply take your fingers off your face and relax your facial muscles. You can do this exercise 15-25 times in a row, on a daily basis.
  • Beauty Creams and Anti-Ageing Serums – Retinoid creams and serums that contain Vitamin C and E can be applied to the affected area on a daily basis and may help to reduce the appearance of smile lines over time.
  • Dermal Fillers – In our opinion, the best and most effective non-surgical way to reduce the visibility of smile lines is to have dermal filler injections performed by a medical professional such as our very own Dr Hayder Ria. Dermal fillers are injected using a process known as microneedling: injections performed with extremely thin needles that are designed specifically to minimise any discomfort you may feel during the procedure.
  • Regular Exfoliation – Exfoliating your skin regularly with quality skincare products can help to smooth your facial skin, thereby making nasolabial folds less visible.
