Lip Filler Treatments

Lots of us have thought about enhancing our lips one way or another. The only problem is social media is plagued with images of massive ‘fake’ lips when all we want is something subtle and natural. Most of us want better definition, slightly enhanced volume, better hydration or better balance between the lips. Believe it or not, lip filler can be subtle and is often a process that requires small amounts of filler added slowly over time until the desired results are achieved. This way the results look natural and last longer.

Our experienced doctors at Harley Street Dermal have spent years combating the online stereotypes associated with dermal fillers and our motto is clear- if you can obviously tell that someone has had filler in their lips, then it’s not a good result!

What is Lip Filler and how does it work?

Lips can often lose volume over time because of the effects of ageing but some people are just born with smaller, deflated, asymmetrical or unshaped lips. Lip filler, when applied carefully and in small amounts, can significantly improve the appearance of one’s lips in a way that doesn’t attract the wrong kind of attention.

Dermal filler is effectively a gel made of cross-linked hyaluronic acid (which is contained naturally within the skin itself) which gives it the ability to provide structural enhancements, such as subtle volume restoration or shaping of the lips. Because hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the skin, the filler usually integrates really well into the skin and can lead to enhancements that look natural but impactful.

It’s important that the treatment is applied conservatively to ensure that just the right amount is used to prevent over-filling, migration and lumps. This is why the treatment should be conducted by an experienced injector who knows exactly what they are doing and can tailor the treatment to your specific needs and goals.

Our Lip Filler Treatment Results

Why consider lip filler treatment?

  • Lip filler can be used to enhance the shape of the lips giving more definition and structure
  • Lip filler can also be used to restore volume loss or improve the balance between the top and bottom lips, which can sometimes be asymmetrical to begin with
  • The results look completely natural and most people won’t look like they had treatment by the time the treatment settles- lip filler doesn’t need to look fake!
  • The treatment usually takes around 15 minutes so it’s easy to fit in between other commitments
  • There is usually minimal downtime and you can usually resume your normal routine immediately after treatment.
  • Results usually last around 12 months, sometimes longer
  • There’s no long-term commitment- in the event that you feel the treatment is not for you, the treatment can be completely reversed with dissolving or left to break down slowly over time. This is unlike surgery where the results are irreversible

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if Lip Filler Treatment is right for me?

The answer to this is quite simple- if you’re looking to subtly balance, enhance volume or shape of your lips at an affordable price, with natural-looking results and minimal downtime, then lip filler could be the right solution for you. Our doctors will always conduct a full consultation to ensure that you are suitable for treatment and can explore potential alternative solutions if you aren’t.

    Will the results look natural?

Absolutely. Our team of highly experienced doctors are amongst the most respected and sought after practitioners for dermal fillers in London with over 20,000 treatments performed successfully over the last 10 years. Our focus is on enhancing your appearance in a way that doesn’t draw the wrong type of attention to yourself but rather subtly enhances what you already have or restores what you might have lost in volume over the years.

    Is Lip Filler treatment painful?

Weirdly, no! Most clinics use minimal anaesthetic but Dr Ria’s experience with the procedure has led him to invest in more effective anaesthetic techniques including anaesthetic injections to thoroughly numb the lips before treatment. This is because the lips contain more nerve endings than most other areas and can be extremely sensitive to pain so the more anaesthetic the better! A topical anaesthetic will also be applied to help numb the target area. Dr Ria usually uses a combination of injection techniques which are often only mildly uncomfortable and most people tolerate the procedure without any issue and minimal pain.

What should I expect on the day?

Your doctor would usually welcome you and start with a detailed consultation. This would include discussing any previous treatments you’ve had, what your understanding of the treatment is and exploring your goals and expectations. They will also discuss the nature of the injecting procedure and related risks. If you are agreeable, the doctor will then usually conduct the treatment by first taking a pre-treatment photo and then applying topical anaesthetic while you complete the necessary medical and consent forms. Additional anaesthetic may be injected as well. After the treatment is complete, the treatment area is massaged and cleaned and then a post-treatment photo is usually taken for comparison purposes. The doctor will then explain any relevant aftercare and offer you information on how to contact them for questions or any follow-up you might require. Our doctors are always contactable directly for any clinical queries by email.

    What should I expect afterwards?

There will usually be some redness and swelling in the injected areas. Usually this is mild/minimal and often doesn’t last for more than a few days at most.

Are there any precautions I should take beforehand or afterwards?

We usually advise that you refrain from drinking any alcohol for 48 hours before your treatment as this could increase your chances of bruising. Other than that, there’s not much you need to do in preparation for the treatment. We do not advise stopping any medication before your treatment. After the treatment, you’re advised to avoid topical creams/cosmetics for at least 4 hours afterwards and to avoid alcohol and exercise for a couple of days.

Is there any follow-up after the procedure?

We don’t routinely follow up everyone after their treatment. However, in certain cases some people will need more treatment and they would usually be encouraged to come for a top-up or ‘second stage’ treatment (which comes with a charge). However, if you ever feel the need to be reviewed after your treatment for whatever reason then our doctors are always happy to offer this free of charge.
