What is Profhilo© and how does it work?
Profhilo is made of hyaluronic acid which is found naturally in your skin. The hyaluronic acid in Profhilo is not cross-linked (unlike dermal filler). Because of this, it’s injected into strategic points (otherwise known as the Bio-Aesthetic Points) across the face, neck or decolletage areas within the dermis layer of the skin (where it is most effective) where it then spreads throughout the skin to hydrate it. Profhilo also acts as a biostimulator which increases collagen production within the skin which improves the structure and texture of the skin as well as keeping the skin hydrated. No topical cream will ever give you the boost that Profhilo would!
For optimal results, we recommend a course of 2 treatments, spaced around 4 weeks apart, depending on your skin’s needs. To maintain and build on your results, a top-up session every 3–6 months is advised. What should I expect on the day?
Your doctor would usually welcome you and start with a detailed consultation. This would include discussing any previous treatments you’ve had, what your understanding of the treatment is and exploring your goals and expectations. They will also discuss the nature of the injecting procedure and related risks. If you are agreeable, the doctor will then usually conduct the treatment by first taking a pre-treatment photo and then applying topical anaesthetic while you complete the necessary medical and consent forms. After the treatment is complete, the treatment area is massaged and cleaned and then a post-treatment photo is usually taken for comparison purposes. The doctor will then explain any relevant aftercare and offer you information on how to contact them for questions or any follow-up you might require. What should I expect afterwards?
There will usually be some redness and swelling in the injected areas. Usually this is mild/minimal and often doesn’t last for more than a few days at most.
Are there any precautions I should take beforehand or afterwards?
We usually advise that you refrain from drinking any alcohol for 48 hours before your treatment as this could increase your chances of bruising. Other than that, there’s not much you need to do in preparation for the treatment. We do not advise stopping any medication before your treatment. After the treatment, you’re advised to avoid topical creams/cosmetics for at least 4 hours afterwards and to avoid alcohol and exercise for a couple of days.
Is there any follow-up after the procedure?
